Rejoining the LGPS as a Councillor
Cynghorwr CPLlL
If you were a councilor in the past and have been elected again, you may be able to combine your previous Councilor pension with the new one in the Local Government Pension Scheme. To do that you must:
- That both pensions are Councilor pensions in the Local Government Pension Scheme and have been administered by the Clwyd Pensions Fund
- That you are asking to combine pensions within twelve months of rejoining the Local Government Pension Scheme as a Councillor.
Your council is free to extend this time limit, but is under no obligation to do so.
Rejoining the Local Government Pension Scheme as an Adviser after opting out
You may have a deferred pension with us if you opted out of paying contributions to the Local Government Pension Scheme while you were still a Councillor.
If you have opted out once , you can opt back into the Local Government Pension Scheme as a Councilor at any time if you are still a councilor and under the age of 75.
If you have opted out of the Local Government Pension Scheme as a Councilor twice (or more), you may only rejoin if your council agrees, unless you opt back into the scheme within three months of starting in a new council in Wales.
You can ask your council about its policy in this regard.
