5. How does working part-time affect my benefits?
If you reduce your hours, but not your whole time rate of pay (hourly rate) then future service will count at the appropriate fraction of whole time. For example, if you work 18.50 hours per week (half time) you would accrue half a years’ pensionable service for every calendar year worked.
Your pension benefits will, however be calculated on the whole time rate of pay you would have received if working whole time.
If you reduce your hours and whole time rate of pay (hourly rate) you should contact the Pensions Section for information on the options available to you to protect the benefits you have built up before the reduction. |
