  Topping Up Your Benefits

As a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme you have the peace of mind of knowing that you belong to a first class pension scheme which offers a guaranteed package of benefits.

But if you joined later in life, or you hope to retire early, you may want to increase your benefits. And even if you are happy with your own retirement benefits you may want to increase your life cover to look after your family. If you are interested in topping up your benefits, then this area of the web site is for you!

"You should start a pension at 20 to get the maximum benefits at 60."

What choices do I have?

We offer two ways of topping up your benefits - both are easy to do, as you pay for them straight from your pay, and you can even pay into more than one at a time if you like.

The choices are:

Buying extra membership - A way of topping up your benefits in the Scheme.

AVCs with Prudential - A form of investment which gets you a bigger pension and / or a lump sum.

After you've read about AVCs and Buying Extra Membership, you might want to go to the section called Choosing which one is right for you to help you decide.
