| The Local Government Pension Scheme is a public service pension scheme which is managed nationally and administered locally by Administering Authorities such as Flintshire County Council.
Employers who participate in the Local Government Pension Scheme fall into one of the following categories:
- A Scheme Employer such as the three Unitary Authorities of Flintshire County Council, Wrexham County Borough Council and Denbighshire County Council. Scheme Employers are defined as such within the Local Government Pensions Scheme Regulations by reference to the functions they undertake.
- There are some employers known as Resolution Bodies which have the power to decide whom, within their employ, can belong to the scheme.
- Certain other employers, provided they meet the prescribed criteria, can participate in the scheme by means of an admission agreement. These Admitted Bodies may state whether some or all of their employees can join the scheme.
